Overhead and Underground Network Design

Model and validate new and existing networks

Neara’s Design tools have been widely adopted by energy utilities as an overhead line design solution. The Neara Platform provides software technology solutions for every stage of a project lifecycle, including full structural analysis of the overhead infrastructure required to model for design.

Here’s how Neara can be utilized for project scoping, and to model and validate new and existing network models.

Project Scoping

Neara allows users to assess the feasibility and costs of different project scopes. This is made possible through powerful 3D visualization, providing utilities with a contextual understanding of nearby structures, environments, and terrain.

A seamless integration with Google Maps and Google Earth overlays images and elevation data to model the real world with just a few clicks. Paired with Neara’s comprehensive design tools, users can place constructions at scale with precision.

Neara users are able to export a variety of reports, including an automated bill of materials to cost and compare different routes, as well as a variety of DXF and PDFs for engineering review.

Existing Network Modeling

The Neara Platform automatically generates an engineering-grade 3D model of network assets from the utility’s existing geospatial data, including DXF, CSV, LAS, KML, and more.

Utilities are also able to model their entire overhead and underground network to create an engineering-grade digital twin that can be used as the starting point of brownfield designs, as well as for at-scale network analysis.

With this data, the platform can automatically model complex structures, poles, conductors, and ground profile. This dynamic model can be used across a broad spectrum of scenarios and element analysis.

For example, users can automatically calculate the sag and tension of conductors by snapping it to survey points. Users may further simulate the behavior of the line under both Static and Fundamental Element Analysis. A variety of reports can then be used to evaluate the design itself, and present project-specific information in a format that can be easily reviewed and exported.

New Network Modeling and Validation

Neara enables utilities to make changes to their model through dynamic analytic functionality. Users can calculate and represent the tip load utilization of all constructions, identify faults and validate their design.

Dynamic ground clearance and conductor clearance features make it possible to ensure designs adhere to clearance requirements of any point of interest, from vegetation to roads.

Custom reports can be created to show any required data – from the utilization of the kingbolts, to the characteristics of the stays attached to each pole, to the behavior of the poles themselves under a range of environmental conditions simulations.
